Held every year at the Cow Palace south of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog show is a great place for dog lovers to get up close and personal with their favorite breeds. Danielle and I make a pilgrimage every year. Here are my favorite images from our visit on January 27th, 2013.

2012 Dia de las Muertas

When thinking about covering this years Day of the Dead in San Francisco’s Mission District I made the conscious decision to use natural light (so no flashes). This made capturing these images both harder and easier. Easier since I no longer had to juggle an external flash, harder because I was forced to work harder to find scenes with good lighting. 2012 NorCal Tough Mudder

Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. After seeing the obstacles on this course I have nothing but admiration for the men and women who participated. While I did not walk the entire course I did, through the use of some judicious shortcuts over hills, manage to get to all of the obstacles over the span of 4 hours. It was a long, exhausting day but I had a great time (though next time I won’t lug around so much camera gear).
